WOODBUTCHER

Minister of Fire
Maybe over the next year or so I can compile some really good Tree ID shots. Maybe some help from others with photos and such.
I have tons of space on my own website for larger images.....maybe I'll call it WoodButchers Tree ID. I can organize by species....this is a start....What do you guys think?

EDIT see link----------> http://www.bhamiltonstudios.com/woodbutcher.htm

WoodButcher

sounds like a great idea, links not working for me tho...

add some oak and hedge to the list

and maybe a pic of it standing just for good measure

Woodbutcher, I did get a start on something similar. I was thinking of pictures of the tree standing along with leaves. Also, pictures of young vs older trees because the bark can change a lot.

I got several pictures this summer but due to the old enemy (time) it will probably have to wait until next summer.

I do plan also on getting some pictures this winter of some of the various woods we have in our woodpile that are dry. Some have asked for these to be posted and I think it is a good idea.

Good luck on your project.

I think it is a great idea. Multiple pics of trees is always best. In tree ID books, you usually have bark, leaf, twig and fruit ID as well as other items like smell. Id be willing to contribute as it would take me back 15 yrs or so to college and my Dendrology classwork.

I still have a great book co-written by a professor. I'll post the title up later if I remember for those interested. His book even goes as far as discussing propagation of seeds and cloning...

Hmmm . . . WoodButcher and Backwoods working on producing Tree Porn. ;) :)

All kidding aside, it's a great idea and would make a good addition/sticky/wiki/etc. for this site.
