Hi I recently installed a used Defiant Encore and up until tonight it has been working great. Tonight it started puffing smoke randomly out the main air intake at the bottom rear of the stove when shut down all the way. It has a good tall 8" double walled stove pipe and chimney which is installed to code. I recently replaced the seals on the main doors, top hatch, and ash door. Any ideas?

I would first check the chimney cap for buildup, it could be restricting the draft.
Did you vacuum off the catalyst before you started using it? Or, if you've put much wood through it, it could be plugged with fly ash.

Do not shut it all the way. Leave the primary air open 20% and see if the puffing goes away.
These stoves are notorious for back puffing if choked too much.
