Just a simple poll for all of you that are repulsed by the styling of the current line.

The performance is impressive but the looks are not so great.

The performance IS impressive. Just curious to know from those who say they don't look so great, if they have actually seen one in person. I don't find it especially ugly, but not handsome, either. Just another boring steel stove.

My guess is mostly pictures, they're not nearly as "ugly" in person.

There are quite a lot of really handsome wood stoves on the market with bright enamels, ornate ironwork, beautiful stone, etc. Compared to those, the simple and utilitarian BK is not what most would call attractive. It's not something that's going to make your friends go "wow, look at that-" which is a feature a lot of ladies (and plenty of men) want in a stove.

It's not like the 30 is one of "those" good looking stove, I seldom hear about people knocking them. I'm thinking it also has to do with the price point along with the "steel" stove looks.

Just seems that there are quite a few here who are quite 'vocal' about how they 'would have one of them stoves in a minute if they weren't so damn ugly.' Wonder how many are looking at pictures, how many have seen one, and who is following the crowd. Dang, I forgot that one. Wish I could add another option.

I bought mine without ever seeing one just because of the performance claims. I was pleasantly surprised when I uncrated it.

Ugly as hell, but that wouldn't make me hesitate inviting one into my home if the chimmney could support it.

Utilitarian is a fair description IMO.

I have never seen one in a showroom. But my neighbor has one in her basement. Seems like a good stove, she loves it. Solid stove. Just like an F250, nothing to look at, but does it's job well.

Me, I don't want to drive an ugly truck.

lol. Not that I thinks it's ugly, it's just not attractive.

    Ooh, a Princess.........

I've seen a King Parlor (if that's the one with the bow legged legs) and it certainly has a retro sort of look to it.
Now if my local BK salesman wasn't a quintessential stereotypical used car salesman type :censor: .......

Actually looks are not that important to me unless we're talking woman. In retrospect, I probably should have gotten the Parlor, and maybe I will if I sell the King.

I think the new Sciracco isn't a bad looking stove. The king and maybe the princess have a weird sort of "upturned" look to them to me, where they angle up in the front. The chinook is a bit "modern" for me. I have only seen them in pics, never in person. If they had the Sciracco AND I'd heard of them before buying the Republic, I would have at least looked at it with the leg option.

This sounds just like a re-run of all of the posts about how ugly the 30-NC is a few years ago.

I must not have been around for those! I wondered why I never seen them, I figured it was price point related. Most of the steel stoves look similar to me, I do think a step top adds a nice touch though.

If the ugliness was for a reason, maybe to make room for a cat element, then that would be one thing but the BK ugliness is not an accident. Somebody actually made the stove look that way in an effort to be stylish.

I have been in the room with more than one cold king and also a running princess insert. When in a room with a king, the ugliness isn't nearly as overpowering as the great size of this thing. It really is a big stove. Then you start noticing the weird things like the sloping door and sides. Pretty soon you just look away to see the eye candy offered by another brand.

Nothing beats the utility of the BKs. Burn time is king for those that actually heat with wood.
