So Cent ALASKA
After having to fight the lift out gate & then putting a ramp on to load/offload ATV.
Using a board to roll big round on.
I decided I needed a better tail gate. Upgrade my wood hauler since I can't get to the wood site yet. :)
May have made it to heavy duty but better to strong & not break.

Haven't got the latches on it yet, maybe I'll use 2 hasps.
83" X 44" X 3/4" treated plywood, 5 hinges. 2X6 (replaceable) on the gate so the ATV chains don't tear up the ply wood,
Feels real solid.

Next is a small jack mounted to the front of the trailer to tilt if I need to reduce the angle at.

Now I can roll the big rounds up the ramp, on & off load easier.

Pics: Old & the making the new gate, & front where I plan to put a small tilt jack

Did you through bolt those hinges into the plywood?
How thick is the plywood?
I'm the same way about building things indestructible, I'm just envisioning 500lbs of quad +you on those center hinges/rails.

Nice job Dave, looks good. What are u going to use for a jack? My first thought was a small hyd. bottle jack. A C

3/4" plywood. Thru bolted the hinges thru the ply wood & thru the bottom 2X4s, On the ATV ramp I figured the sandwiched material is 4-1/4" thick, stronger than a 4X4 at 44" long,
ATV ramp 2X6 is bolted to the 2X4 sandwiching the 3/4 plywood, cut/drill out the 2X6 so it fit over the hinge then drilled thru the 2X6, thru the hinge, plywood & 2X4 & put a 6" carriage bolt thru it all on the top side.

Yes a small bottle jack. don't know where to look for one yet. Junk yard, Pawn shop??
Or maybe a screw jack , like some of the spare tire car jacks.

Pics: hinges carriage bolt heads is top side pics, ATV 2X6 ramp covering the hinge, & 5/16 countersunk nuts is bottom side of the ramp, 5/16" galvanized bolts

Couldn't you just use the tongue jack?

Edit: NM, Didn't realize it was a dump trailer!

If I use the tilt function, I don't bottom out (high center) the ATV when the snow plow is on.
I ripped up 2 rungs on my aluminum truck/ATV ramp this winter when backing off the trailer. Bottom of the snow plow caught it.
When the trailer has a load, it's too heavy for me to tip it & a jack would do it easy & not let it come back down or go up higher. Should lock it into place at the angel I need.
That's the plan anyway :)
Hopefully I won't be using the tilt function often, but when needed, it sure is nice & a time saver.
Trailer getting heavier, a few less round per trip now LOL

Got the gate latches made. Used a piece of flat aluminum & a broken bungee.
Painted it with water seal.
Now looking for a jack for the front.
Ready to cut wood soon :)
