Getting it up to 185 when boiling point is 198 strikes me as very good going.

To answer the question about storage, seems that the issue here is firebox capacity. Basically the Garn at night is putting out close to its max.
 
I slept pretty much through the night the other night during my garn shift. It was only 14 degrees. I stoked it at 12 and then again at 6. Tank got down to 130 and the g house stayed at 65.
I think things are getting better.
