Heading down to PA this weekend with the fam to visit my wifes relatives.
Staying in Gilbertsville, PA...and wanted to see if anyone has been to Valley Forge, PA and ifs a good site to see? (Going to go to the Phili Zoo probably on Fri/Sat, and were looking for another close trip to our stay)
Anyone been there? (Traveling with mom in law, my wife, and my three boys ages 7 (civil war fan), 5 and 3.
Thanks.

I've been there a number of times - it is a neat place and a beautiful park. Of course, the area has probably been built up more since I was young.

It's supposed to be hot hot hot this weekend......there.

You might want to walk a bit or eat down near the river (the old part of Philly - the US Constitution Center, Betsy Ross House, etc.)...that's neat.
Also the Italian market is sorta cool on fri or sat early morning. If you go, stop in the Pretzel Factory (at Washington Av) and get the hot pretzels right out of the oven.

I live nearby. Not sure what you like, but my tips:
1) USS new jersey, has tours of the battleship, just over the river from philly.
2) Adventure aquarium, next to the battleship, 2 HUGE tanks, and a lot of others. Good stuff I used to scuba dive in the shark tank
3) longwood gardens (just south of valley forge). Amazing gardens, huge place, probably wont be able to see it all in one day.
4) Brandywine Battlefield is right next to longwood, not sure what is there, havent been there myself
5) Independence Hall - http://www.nps.gov/inde/index.htm all sorts of revolutionary war stuff

thats the short list... if you are looking for shopping
1) king of prussia mall.... its huge and expensive..i dont like shopping, so whatever, but people seem to really like it

food:
1) Shady Maple Smorgasbord , it is out in lancaster (amish country). very cheap and more food than you can imagine, all you can eat, and there is a lot of verarity, lots of fun if you like food! free if it is your birthday (but its cheap $12 or $15 per person... i forget...) I have only been there for breakfast,,, good times, worth the trip http://www.shady-maple.com/coupons
2) reading terminal market, - big farmers market in center city philly.... lots of free samples, neat stuff.... farmers market. http://www.readingterminalmarket.org/

Have a good trip, let us know if you went to any of those and how it was! PM me if you have questions (i might not check the thread)
