Hello to all, I was pretty busy this summer didn’t visit site much. But winter is coming and it time to talk about the burning season.I have heard alot of good and bad things about Vermont Castings on here in the past but I could not let this deal go by.I found a 2 year old Defiant 1945 in great shape on Craig’s list for $600.We took out the P.E.Vista a very good stove but just a bit small for our needs.Small this Defiant is not ! I followed all the recommended installation suggestion’s for V.C. and so far this Stove has been Awesome.no back puffing or problems of any kind. I Think dry good hardwood is the key! Love the longer burns and the radiant heat is awesome this our first Modern Cast iron stove !

I burned a Defiant Catalytic for a couple winters and it was an awesome stove and beast of a heater!

I have a Encore 2190 (CAT) and have been very pleased with it. I find it to be very easy to start and get up to temp into cruise mode, really without a whole lot of thought or effort. Plus it puts out a ton of heat and im easily getting 8-9 hour burns with good fuel. As long as it looks sound you really cant go wrong with that one.
