Hello everyone,

We're completing purchase on a 1928 home that has a
smaller (specs on attached picture) fireplace. It has
no chimney and 2nd floor, so we're going to have to go
with back direct-vent. (We really want a gas fireplace!)

The problem is the opening size - there doesn't seem to be a product
available that we can find for this.

EDIT: I found this link:
http://www.fireplacesonline.com/napoleon_gas_inserts/Specs_Gdizc.html
But the stove direct-vents upward, and not rear. Is it safe/possible
to have a 90-deg bend in the venting pipe to be rear venting?

Anyone have any suggestions?
(existing product or know of a custom manufacturer?)

We'd be really grateful,
Thanks!

I have never seen any "inserts" that allow horizontal venting. All inserts I have seen are made to be installed into a fireplace with a full chimney. Your only option might be a "VentFree" product.

There are many gas inserts with rear direct vent. Unfortunately, they're usually about 10" taller, and 10" wider, than we can accommodate. :/
