Ok I have had my house for 5 years and have never used my fireplace in fear of the insert being bad and not knowing what shape it is in. I do know that the fireplace was added to the house in the 80's and its not original to the house.

Thats not an insert. Just a regular fireplace. If your looking for an insert, i would recommend a blaze king, I'm biased though. Those doors look almost identical to the ones i had before my insert though.

Well, not all that regular, it has those heat exchanger ducts in it, but still not a 'insert' in the normal sense.

That fireplace looks kind of small. First take some measurements. And start from there

The pictures just make it look small. I just saw some rust issues on the lower edge of the metal and was wondering if there would be a problem there

Cut the tubes and what ever part of the damper area out so you have room to run a liner down to the inserts is all that is needed
