Daughter just bought her first house, and it has a fireplace like I've never seen before.

House was built in the 50s, the fireplace sits in an addition likely from the 70s

Has vents on underside. Anyone have any info?

Usually there is a mfg. tag somewhere on the door frame.

looks like a metal tradesman made it themselves. From what I can see it looks like black iron metal and stainless steel skirt around it ? I like it , especially the radius on it
very nice.If im correct , then probably no under righters on it?
