I don't think a spark can do it - I think you need a hot fire to set off the creosote. I hope you are not staring at a chimney full of creosote..........if so, clean her up! Cheers!
 
About 451°F . The chimney temp may be low, but always rises when a fire is first started or when it is refueled. If you suspect creosote accumulation, don't roll the dice, get it cleaned asap.
