I got one of the cheapos last year, not sure how accurate it is compared to a high end one but it works fine for me. If you use it to compare, it will give you an idea on how your wood is doing.

What he said. Got one off ebay for $20 or something. Works well for what I need. Just remember we are measuring moisture from fire wood. Not the most reasont rock sent here from mars....

I'm sure the ones NASA use cost multi millions of dollars. Even if they get it wrong.
