Question:

I would like to know what type of firewood is hardest and longest burning for a standard fireplace with a gas igniter?

Answer:

Generally speaking- Oak is the best around. Hickory and Black Locust are as good or better- but harder to find. There is a listing of wood heat values at the link below.
