Im trying to learn of a stove i heard about through the grapevine which has a sealed ashpan (the ashpan has some type of sliding cover to close it up in order that you can walk to the ash bin to dump it i guess?)

I cant wait to know what stove company did this so i can see the quality of the stove that carry's an ashpan with a roll top desk built into it LOL

person who can tell me about this revolutionary ashpan wins.... a cookie!

Craig is correct. The Encore has this. They have had this for about 27 years (1986). Nothing special about it to be honest. Kind of a pain in the ass to use since the ash pan has the tendency to overflow.

I used it a few times this winter. Send Craig the cookies. I'll take a box of protein bars.

    Ash pans are so over-rated.

wow, surprised it was VC doing this o.0. its does seem like a ridiculous idea... I thought to myself anyone who needs their ashpan to have roll top desks prolly should not be using a coal or wood stove LOL

My memory might fail me, but I seem to remember some coal stoves which had a similar feature, although not as slick as the VC one.

In theory, it's a really nice system - after all, you do need a way to remove the ash pan, so this is both a handle and a cover. The ash pan hinges out.

Whether it works well in the actual stove - I'd leave that to those with experience. I'm sure I have burned an encore - just not for long enough to judge.

I know you're joking about the roll top, but it's nothing like that. It's more like the ash buckets you see with a lid.

It's just a flat lid you put over the ash pan that is suppose to prevent ash from flying around as your transport it outside.

great reply browning, i was told this particular stove has a sliding roll top desk design on the ash pan (but ive never seen it myself so cant be sure), but holy crap i do like the idea of that pic of yours for an ash bin next to my stove o.0!

Some of the Woodstock stoves have a well designed ash pan. I use mine all the time, it sure beats the old shovel and bucket routine imo.

My Jotul Firelight has an ash pan. Works great, until you open the door to go outside and dump it on a very windy winter day.

The cover seems nice in theory, but it's just one more dirty thing to store near the stove.

BK has a decent ash pan with a hinged cover. I used it once, just to say I tried. It is reasonably sized, but that stove is deep, and holds a lot of ash. Too many trips with the pan.

me too on the Oslo. I haven't tried the one on the 30 yet but it looks to be really cumbersome. I may have to go the shovel and bucket route there.

Sounds about right. It should fit right in with the other two stoves.
