Is there a chart out there that specifies best wood to burn (temps/btu) with season time (which seasons faster or not), and moisture. I am new to this and would like to see in a spreadsheet that I can refer too, which would help educate me as to, let's say, is maple wood better to burn then let's say ash wood and so on. Or, when running out of wood, which is the best wood to use that has the least season time. Can anyone help with this? Thanks

google: wood btu

The Sweep's list is nice.

Nice Shari! I just printed that list out....

This is the one you want. Scroll down a little, below the main BTU chart is a chart showing excess moisture content when green, and it lists wood rankings green vs. seasoned.

Yeah, just found it, nice, but would really love to see some like this but with moisture / seasoning...

Yes, that's the one. I scrounge most of my wood & I use that to try to figure out how many btu's I'm hauling home! :)

Also, if you want to "get an idea" of "relative" seasoning times, look for a kiln drying guide. I know you aren't kiln drying your firewood, but it will give you a good idea of what woods season faster and what woods season slower.
