Hello everyone!

Got some free scrounge wood a couple months ago and now its splitting time! However this wood is hard to split and dense! Got some straight grain hickory and that pops like a champ but even the straight on this stuff is a pain! Thinkin its some sort of Ash? Got it out of middle CT.

Thanks!

Ian

Looks like pignut to me!

Willing to bet you got mix there............the bottom 2 bark samples look like Ash to me, some other pieces in there just don't look "hairy" enough to be Hickory.
