I am sooooo hoping this is mega BTU Black Birch.... aka Sweet Birch.. but I figured I would let the sites resident pros tell me... Please let it be what I think it is......

Absolutely looks like black birch - great score! Break a fresh twig and smell - should smell of wintergreen. Cheers!

It sure is, have one myself, a tree got knocked over by the wind this winter and landed on my wood pile, its good stuff, Id like to have a couple cords but Ill have to settle for what i have.

I think it is some sort of cherry, but the smell should be pretty obvious. Wintergreen smell = black birch. That wierd smell all cherries have, which I have read is cyanide = cherry.

Afraid that I'm thinking black cherry, too. The little bit of end-grain that we see is the kicker- too dark for black birch.

Black cherry is not the end of the world- fantastic fragrance.

I don't know Black Birch, but the log bark in the top pic doesn't look like the Cherry I've seen...

I know as Black Birch ages the trunk can resemble cherry..... I am in heaven now ! Better BTUs than White Oak and ez to split. WOOT WOOT !!
