Wood ID please

I just got this today from a landscaper friend he said it was ash but now I'm not so sure after splitting it. It has a little bit smoother bark than all the other Ash that I have and after splitting up I noticed a very strong vinegar type smell.

Basswood.
 
After researching it does look like basswood, was a lot lighter and more moist than any ash I have dealt with. Not a real good firewood either.....
 
Makes good kindling...
