It does stink a little when you're splitting it but it did split fairly easy. It's not real heavy either. My guess would have been Cottonwood but I'm not sure.
 
It's not Mulberry, I know that, it looks like a lighter "softer" hardwood of some sort but I don't know what.
 
x2 poplar. that grain and core look like poplar i've busted up and bark is the right color, slightly different texture though. still going with poplar.

This looks like Bigtooth Aspen to me. Bigtooth Aspen is in the poplar family, so the wood is light and should season quickly.
