Man, That's some nice Black Birch.
And yes, it does a nice light show and leaves good coals.
It's great to split cuz it smells so nice, like a mug of Birch Beer.

yep, looks like black birch.

We have some around this area, but i've never burned any. I need to try to get ahold of some.
 
Thanks for the response... I thought the bark was reminiscent of birch but just wanted to be sure. So far, I haven't burned any this season but lately I threw some on and it was great. Definitely a recommend!
