I would guess pine of some sort, but I am in the north east.

Found this off the side of the road, there were no leaves or needles around.

hmmm... are there any surrounding trees with with similar bark?

I'm pretty sure it's some sort of pine/spruce/fir, but which one, I have no idea. It's alot easier for me to tell you which ones it is NOT! lol %-P
