I think it's oak. Perhaps Pin Oak.

Shows what I know! I was thinking it looked like some of my soft woods out west with the bark and all. But seeing where the op was located I decided to leave it up those who have actually seen wood like oak. I wouldnt know one if I ran into it!
 
I love the wood ID questions, I try to guess from the pics before I scroll down. I guessed this as red oak, my ID skills are improving! Good score for $60
