I pulled this out of my grandpa's ravine over the fall and cut it up over the weekend. I was wondering if this is black oak?

No I don't, didn't think of that.... The bark doesn't resemble red or white oak. Just curious cause I've never seen any black oak down there, or much oak for that matter...
 
I agree with jackatc1 - looks like Chestnut Oak (Rock Oak)
I was curious about it because it had the typical oak leaves but resembled nothing like red or white oak. Is it any good? I assume it is being an oak species...
 
It's a chestnut oak, I cut tons of the stuff. The ones on my place aren't fit for anything but firewood.
