Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of wood this is? I split it in June or so, it's fairly light, and it's nice and dry now. As you can see in the photo (sorry it's a bit blurry) it's got streaks of red running through it, and the second piece is just to show what the bark looks like (I have no leaves from it...)

Thanks,

Jon

Definitely boxelder. About same btu's as soft maple, maybe a little less, it's in the maple family. Around here if they get to any size they like to fall over, prolly cause the centers are usually rotton and full of ants.

Based on the blurriness of the pic . . . quaking aspen? ;) :) Sorry, couldn't help myself. I'll try to be more useful in the future . . .

Box'in the elder. That thar has about the same BTU as a handful of dried oak leaves. But it burns, makes heat and is pretty easy stuff to work up.
