wood ID?

heeyo folks- a buddy of mine cut down a tree and gave us the wood- he's not sure what it is- and im doing my first year of scrounging for wood, so if its not maple or pine, damned if i know!

My guess is purple plum.
 
I think it is a cherry, but it doesn't look quite right for Black Cherry, the usual large wild cherry. Instead I think it might be an edible cherry. Cherry is good firewood - medium density and should be seasoned nicely by next fall.
 
Now that I see the leaf, I agree it is purple plum, an ornamental tree. Wood will be the same as cherry.
