The first year I cut mine at 20 inches. Now I cut them at about 18 inches. This results in less bridging.
 
I have an EKO and do 16" - 18". Sometimes I leave a few 20".
 
I find 16" to be the best length for me. I will have a longer piece every now and again but I have had less than stellar results when I load the firebox with 18"+. More bridging, harder to start, etc and so on....
