Greeting-
I have a wood stove fire place insert (Napoleon 1400) in a brick fireplace. For some time we have not had a mantel, the brick foots are there but no mantel. The distance from the top of the stove to the top of the foots are 16-18 inches. I was considering purchasing an exotic wood (Wenga) mantel to span the foots. Does anyone know what the building code is for distance between stove and mantel?

Frank

See page 9 of the manual. The stated minimum to a combustible mantel is 28 inches, which is also the minimum non-combustible facing size above the insert.
