Hi. Got some free wood on craigslist and I'm wanting to know what species it is. Its been cut down for sometime so there are no leaves but the bark looks identical to trees around it that looks like maple shaped leaves. Thanks for your help.

And it split very easy, and was pretty light in weight. I put the moisture meter on a piece I had should split and it was 30%. Maybe good for next year. The smell is hard to describe. It was similiar to grass.

I think norway maple.
 
Poplar to me dry and use it next year.

Tulip Poplar. Since it's been cut a while, you might even be able to split smaller, stack, and get it somewhat dry if you need it this later this season. No guarantees though...
