Is there any way to safely use a wood stove with the flu pipe pointing up a chiminey? That is, not really "installed", just pointing up the chimeny.
 
wouldn't the creosote issue be the same as running a traditional fire in a grate?
 
There is a lot more volume of heat and air heading up the chimney with an open fire and with much larger pieces of wood. But you can gunk up a chimney with open fires of poorly seasoned wood.
