Question:

We would like to install a woodburning stove in our basement. We would like to exhaust the stove through an exterior wall. Currently, the cinder block exterior wall is covered with faced insulation and 1/2" fire-rated drywall. Can we install an exhaust pipe through this wall or would it be considered combustible? If it is combustible, how would you suggest we exhaust the stove?

Answer:

All woodstoves need a complete class A ULType103HT chimney, either metal or masonry. You cannot just put a stovepipe through the wall. The single wall stovepipe you are referring to is only to hook a stove to a chimney..not for a chimney in itself. See https://www.hearth.com/what/installstove.html
