Last Christmas my wife and I went out for a walk. I asked her (again) about putting a wood stove in the basement. Her (agitated) reply was "Fine, put one it, but if I smell smoke I'm moving out."

That’s “YES” isn’t it? The stove went in this summer.

Well, here it is a year later and what does she and my son get me for Christmas? An Ash Vacuum. Yippee!

Ask her to put her response in writing. Then you will have a back up plan!

There are some guys that would fill the house with smoke just to get rid of the wife!

I would have jumped at that offer with my first wife! Then I would have left the door open all the time.

Sounds like she's MORE than OK with the stove......I'd almost say she LIKES it!!

My wife literally CRIED when I announced that I was putting a woodstove in the house. She grew up in a home that heated with a leaky smokedragon, burning wood that was cut a month before use. I explained to her that we'd be doing it a bit differently, and she reluctantly allowed the stove....

Fast forward to today and she'd KILL me if I got rid of it. She loves it so much, we just got done installing a Napoleon NZ3000 in the living room.....

    We love our woodstoves!

Bill, I remember when you were in the planning stages. Looks like this has worked out great for both you and your wife.

Harryfatcat, I let out a great big laugh when I read this, because..... That is exactly what I told her on that walk, I said "fine, I'll leave the door open"

Scotty, my wife's brother built a stove (box with door and 6" pipe opening on top) that she hated when she baby sat the neices years ago. I think she is surprised how little smoke we get - only a little puff when I reload.

Backwoods Savage, yes, I am enjoying being a part time burner this year. As you know I have next years wood c/s/s drying for next year already. Its my new hobby (not obsessed YET).

Maybe a pic tomorrow bogydave. Just came in from the garage: 800 M run, 30 pull-ups, 30 front squats (75 lbs) 30 sit-ups, 30 power cleans (75#). I feel old. I want to go to the local mom and pop store, get a giant oatmeal cookie and a pint of ice cream. Yeah, thats it, right after I let the dog in....

Front squats-- at least you're doing it right. I'd like to get a safety squat bar from Dave Tate, but I bought a maul instead.

Tate did some CrossFit seminars for awhile. Box squats, etc... What a beast. I'd like to get a safety bar too. Maybe next year. Here's the pic bogydave. Passed on the oatmeal cookie, raided what the wife had left over from Christmas.

Things are definetly improving, huh Bill?...I mean, here ya are talking about a STOVE while you were WALKING last year, and now this year you're showing off pics of the INSTALL and telling us about RUNNING! Now, just get busy on the wood prep, everyone on this site will tell you that one year in advance is not good enough to dry the wood!! Keep up the good work and keep posting!
