Unrest in the Forest - and Redux!
  • Unrest in the Forest

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas

    The trouble with the maples
And they’re quite convinced they’re right
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks can’t help their feelings
If they like the way they’re made
And they wonder why the maples
Can’t be happy in their shade

There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
    As the maples scream, “Oppression!”
And the oaks just shake their heads
    [IMG]
So the maples formed a union
    And demanded equal rights
The oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light
Now there’s no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
    By hatchet, axe, and saw

There is Unrest in the Forest… Redux

So I went into the forest, to witness the unrest,
And there I saw an oak tree, standing taller than the rest.
I took my trusty chain saw, and pulled the handled string,
Then walked up to the oak tree, and felled the giant thing.

Two hours I did spend, dismembering the tree,
While the maples looked upon me, enchanted and in glee.
I sawed the branches, and then the trunk, into nice 16 inch rounds,
Then I loaded them in my pickup truck, and headed back to town.

Once home I began the splitting, the oak did sometimes protest,
But my 27 ton hydraulic splitter did put the tree to rest.
And then upon my woodrack, I did pile my newfound splits,
Before hopping in my pickup, and heading back into the sticks.

Once back inside the forest, the maples they did cheer,
Until the sound of my Echo chainsaw, they did begin to hear.
I opened up the throttle, the hacking did commence,
And by nightfall I had enough split maple to surround my home with a wooden fence.

So now I sit in comfort, Merlot held in hand,
Gazing upon my Jotul, as it warms our happy clan.
With wood aplenty and heat for the season, I did begin to think,
That nothing beats resting near some burning oak, enjoying a good drink.

Cheers, and Happy New Year y’all…
