Jim holds one of the hundreds of patterns in the Woodmans shop - these patters are pressed into damp sand, and then molten iron is poured in to form the cast iron parts. This pattern produces 4 stove lid lifters - notice the "gates" , which are the wooden pieces that create grooves in the sand - which allows the molten metal to flow into all the cavities.
