Feeling the Heat

Stopped in one of the local Menards stores today for a few bags of their "Premium Pellets" to test burn. They are in a white bag with green lettering with an image of a pine tree on the front. There is absolutely no mention on the bag of either hardwood or softwood. The top of the bag just says "Premium Pellets".....bottom says they are made by Marth Wood Shavings.

I know a different Menards has Marth pellets in a tan colored bag. I'll have to get in there to see if those bags state hardwood or softwood.

Are all Marth pellets created equal? Is there a chance these are softwood pellets? Which Marth pellets do I have?

you have the better of the two.

AFAIK the brown bag is hardwood and white bag is pine.

Hmmm....gotta get a test burn done...maybe a good buy at the sale price $3.59/bag.

They have two in green bags I think, the pine and the Pennywise. The pine says Super Premium, whatever that means, also says softwood on the bag. A very good pellet. The others are hardwood or mix, average pellet at best.

My bad guys...they are indeed Pennywise Pellets.....must've had too many Leinenkugel's when I was looking last night!!!!

Pennywise have been good to me; I found them (last years) as good as the Somersets; both purchased at Menards.

Just did a good cleaning and put in a bag of Pennywise to see if they're worth buying some while on sale. I'll be sure to run a bag of Somersets next to compare. I'd be tickled $h*pless if they were as good as the Somersets I've burned.

Wondering how the pennywise did, local menards has them for $169

$169 ? Still $196 here maybe the sales comin'. I found them for $159 in Oct. I burned 2 ton this year and they worked fine for me. Not bad fines but the ash is worse than Uncle Jeds by far.

If you like the Jed's, you probably will not like the Pennywise. I was never overly impressed.

The Pennywise surprised me actually. The heat was close to Somersets, but produced more ash. I haven't checked the Menard's prices here lately but they all had Pennywise a month ago.

So the answer is its still a crapshoot. I will probly end up with 3 tons of jeds forsure.
Just looking for some cheaper stuff for occasional basement burning.
