While most everyone else got nearly no winter this year we got near record breaking levels of snow. Anchorage is about 35 miles from my house.

Congrats, YOU CAN HAVE IT We've had it too many times. We are at a whopping 50.6" FOR THE SEASON (we have storms that drop more than that usually)

I grew up in northern Maine and I can say that this winter if finally feels "normal" to me with the snow we got. In winter's past most of the snow would end up blowing away with the windstorms we get.

No pictures . . . but I went up to The County this past weekend. Dropped off my broken ATV with a friend in Washburn to get fixed and then I took off on the sled . . . 225 miles from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rode from Washburn to Van Buren (made a mistake and almost rode into Caribou though) . . . skipped over to Madawaska and then to Frenchville . . . dropped down to Sinclair and then rode over to Portage . . . south to Ashland and then west and north to Washburn.

Snow was melting fast though . . . especially yesterday. When I left temps were in the mid 60s . . . when I got home there was quite a difference in temps as there was a 10 or 11 degree difference as we were hitting 77-78.

Trip did not go by entirely trouble free . . . had a flat tire on the way up and had to rely on a stranger with a cutting torch to cut off a lug nut/stud and bought a new tire/lug nut/stud for the trailer . . . broke my third brake light lens while unloading the ATV . . . and I ended up losing a bunch of my gear when I failed to realize that I had not zippered my trunk bag shut.

All in all though . . . it was a nice way to end my admittedly very short riding season.

I, for one (of Many!), will gladly concede victory. You can have the white stuff.
I put 1500+ miles on my Ultra & fired up my snowblower ONCE this winter.
Spring will be officially here tomorrow, according to the calendar, & while we
know there's still a chance that Nature, who can be a REAL MUTHA, might still
have some nastiness in store for us, it won't stay for long. Bring on the leaves,
grass & flowers! SPRING has just about SPRUNG!

Yeah my Mom was saying it was in the low 60s. Lots of great trails in that end of the state... grew up in Van Buren and rode every winter. I'd sometimes ride to school even.
My Dad sold his Formula MX last year, it had something around 20,000 miles on it.

I haven't bothered to buy one up here. There isn't much for trails... they are pretty much the same trails we drive our 4x4s on in the summer so it's not a "highway" like the ITS. It's either that or "boondocking" which isn't my thing.
AND usual winters just isn't much for snow either. Last year I could see the grass in my yard almost all winter. It would snow and then the wind would blow it all across my driveway.

i love looking at snow as long as its not surrounded by my window frames. i hit golf balls for recreation, and fish and canoe, ice fishing looks intriguing i must say but loss of golf dates will sadly keep me no farther north than the Old Dominion that said , i would actually consider triping north for a winter weekend of sitting in an outhouse above a hole in the ice if the fish are biting and the outhouse is "wet" i expect a bottle of jamison is standard kit for the form of endeavor

No problems with Jamison in the ice shanty here; I usually have Jezynowka around (blackberry brandy).

Around here another name for ice fishing is "ice drinking" . . . not really sure what's being drunk.

Oh yeah . . . typically there are no holes in the ice fishing shack . . . the shack is just where folks go to warm up, make a meal, etc. Folks here tend to set "traps" rather than actually fish with a fishing pole.
