So it finally gets cold enough to fire the stove up for the third time since install and my brand new 90 seems to be leaking. I noticed the smell last time I burned but was still trying to get rid of the paint "burn in" smell so I couldnt be certain.

I sealed all my joints including the stove adaptor. I also have aluminum tape on the t and first connection. These are the fitting behind the stove that you cannot see from the front.

I did the lights off flashlight trick when I started up the stove but did not see any smoke. So I did the sniff test on all the exposed joints and got a strong odor from one of the seams on the 90. NOT an actuall connection joint but one of the factory seams. It was definitely a stronger scent then any other connection. Is this normal from factory? I did bend the 90 slightly during installation so perhaps this bumped something loose?

Anyway I got the red RTV sealant out and went to town on every expose seam and joint in my piping on the outside. Really hope this does it. I've definitely had more issues with this stove and installation then I planned on. Any other advice?

Yeah, installs can be a pain at first. Just keep adding silicone and tape.

this is Duravent Pro?

You didn't use long screws to connect the pipes? Just asking.

silicone inside all 90's and tee's. They should come that way from the factory but if they are on a shelf some "mental midget" will come by, grab it, and start twisting. P and L vent elbows are not designed to twist like b-vent.

Yes its Duravent Pro. Siliconed all the seams on the 90. Gonna tape it all this afternoon and fire it back up. I did not use long screws on install. Used the short little sheet metal screws that Duravent said to use in instructions. Only on the adjustable piece. I hope this gets it all.

Grab a handfull or 2 of pellets and throw it in the pot before start up that will create enough smoke to see any leaks with a light
My stove fills the burnpot up before the ignitor turns on. Should I add more than what it already puts in? Its a bottom feed system.

I am talking the seems inside the elbow not the outer ends.

DUravent started using an acrylic sealant inside the pipe that "melts" to seal the inner joints. While this should stop smoking after a bit of time, I have found that 90 and 45's often perpetually leak. If they cannot get the problem solved that alone may be the thing that gets me to consider ICC, which in my opinion is a much better L vent

i agree, it sure is easier to just seal the outside, but inside is the best option
DAMN! I'll see how my outside seal and tape job holds up and possibly undo it all this summer and go to town on the insides. What about the T? would this be the same bag of crap as the 90 would be? This thing is pissing me off! The old lady is whining about the smell!

its probably going to be fine, sealing the insides- best done when pipe is new
your pipe is likely sealed well now, if it continues to smell, time to check the stove/combustion blower housing etc

Thanks for advice. Stove still stinks? Seems to be coming from my stove adaptor. I will pop it off and RTV seal the hell out of it tomorrow. I did seal it at install but just but a normal size bead on the female side and then used a hose clamp to seal it to stove. Thought that would be fine but maybe not? I'll try that and if not get into the stove/combustion blower deal. It is a brand new stove. Hope thats not the issue.

a very sensitive combustible gas sniffer would be helpful
