I was taking some pics this morning and figured after seeing all of the recent picture perfect stacks of wood I might as well show off my ugly (but perfectly functional) wood stacks.

BFD Pics 306.jpg

Picture of my "emptied" woodshed with the ugly looking shingle job (which you cannot see . . . but trust me, it's ugly as it has different colored shingles as I used what I had and bought a few of whatever color was available) . . . I did put some wood into it this Spring (wood that has been seasoning outside for a couple years now). In another few weeks I'll most likely move some more wood that has been outside inside . . . where it will sit until 2013-2014.

Here are my ugly stacks . . . and an ugly propane tank which I use to heat my domestic hot water and run my range.

And here are a couple piles of ugly looking splits that I split up yesterday since I was home due to Patriot's Day . . . as you can see I didn't finish the splitting since I was getting tired . . . probably due to the fact I was splitting horizontally. ;)

Nope. Nothing ugly there Jake.

Shed looks great! Everything else was ugly- but in a good way. Look up "wabi sabi", my man. Beauty in imperfection and in impermanence. Bringing order to nature is a fool's errand, and we're all fools at some point :)

I just posted UGLY pics- but it's a stack that will be burned in June all at once.

Edit- I take that back- even your other stacks are neat. I see a lot of pride there.

That is one of the best looking wood sheds ever!

Yeah, what are you talking about...the shed looks great.

How do you get to your piles...wheelbarrow? That's how I do most of my piles but last year I was able to get to one with the lawn tractor and trailer-that made it a bunch easier. Even if I take some brush and small tree out for another stack, I'll still have to use the wheelbarrow, which stinks.

Thanks for the comments about the shed . . . most of it is built out of recycled wood so to me it isn't all that pretty . . . especially if you saw it from the sky since the roof has several different colors of shingles . . . but it is functional . . . and since I'm never flying over my woodshed it works for me.

I either move the wood from my stacks to the shed with a wheelbarrow or more likely with my ATV and trailer . . . since the ATV Club's trailer is stored at my house I often use it for that purpose. It's a lot easier with the trailer since it saves me something like four or six wheelbarrow loads.

I used your shed (and some others) as inspiration for mine.
I like that you used a bunch of recycled material to build it.
"Bringing order to nature is a fool's errand".....yep.
"nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect"

nice shed Jake

i think everything looks great in those picts. i wouldn't have it any other way.==c
