A report on the ornery one who had a total hip replacement this morning.

After a rather weird start of the day, all is well. We were up before 3:30 this morning and off to the hospital. That turned out to be foolish, but we were told when we were to report to the hospital. Got there and waited, and waited and then waited a bit longer. After they took her to pre-op, I knew it would be several hours before she was in her room so I went to the car for a nap. A bit difficult with rain hitting the car but I got a few winks in.

It was near noon before I got to see her in her room. Other than a bandage and the weird hospital gown, she looked and acted as though nothing had happened! Well, she did have some pain in a muscle in the thigh but she massaged it and that went away. So she asked for some food. Ah.... I had still not eaten and that just made me more hungry, but I have plenty on my bones to tide me over...

After I brought the walker, crutches and personal items to the room and has sat there for a bit she started begging me to go home and to be careful. I guess I looked a little sleepy and she was concerned. So, here I am at home now. Bedtime will come early tonight.

Again, she is doing well and didn't even want so much as a pain pill but did want some anti-inflamatory medicine fast! She had been off it for a week and had suffered as she has a terrible case of arthritis. She will be fine now and we expect to have her home Wednesday.

Both she and I want to thank all for your concerns and best wishes. It means a lot to us. I know she does not post (she might have one time) but she regularly reads several of the posts and gets a few laughs besides some shocks at what some folks do.

For those who are not aware, she had a total knee replacement on the same side just 2 months ago and this is her 3rd surgery in 5 months. She is slated yet for one more... Hurts the pocketbook too.

Wow that is a lot of surgery. I would be ornery too! :p I am glad she came through it well - wish her a speedy recovery for me please!

Best,
Mary

Great news Denny....
No one on earth should have to get up at 3:30 am. I do it every day and it sucks.
I hope Judy has a speedy recovery. I am sure she will...she's a feisty one...(gotta watch those red heads!):ZZZ;lol

So she'll be out stacking wood this weekend? ==c

Wish her a speedy recovery from us too.

Exellent news, Dennis! Thanks for letting us know. I thought the operation was May 1st for some reason, but I'm glad its done and over with! Sounds like she is handling things well. Hope all continues in that positive vein.

Best Wishes for a speedy recovery....J is one tough cookie..
Get some rest..before you know it..Wednesday will be here!

Other than a bandage and the weird hospital gown, .

I want to design a patient "friendly" hospital gown....I kid about it all the time at work. The girls laugh at me but I am serious.
Those hospital gowns suck. It is bad enough when you are in the hospital or at an outpatient facility for testing, then they make you wear a frock that does not cover you up properly....there has to be a better way dammit.

Glad to hear things went well. My Mom got a hip 2 years ago, and she was cruising in not time.

Continued excellent progress wishes, and I'll throw in some Dixie & Matisse snuffles, as well :)

Thanks for the update, good to hear that all went well.

She was doing well yesterday and doing great today! She told the doctor that she will be going home tomorrow! I believe her.

HollowHill stated she thought the surgery was today and it was originally scheduled for today but just moved one day forward.

Maybe the new milk crate idea has some merit?!

Right Eileen. And now with both Judy and I having two hips replaced we too can say it is in no time at all....almost. I recall on my first hip replacement that I was climbing trees 2 months after the surgery. On the second one, last winter, I was on the atv plowing snow the day after I got home from the hospital. Caught the H for that but it didn't bother at all. We've always heard that the knee surgery is harder than the hip surgery and we are about to find out. I'll let her say after a few weeks which was the hardest.

rottiman, we wish you the best on your surgery. Not sure if you read anything about my wife's knee surgery but just about 3 hours after surgery she walked a long, long hallway and went to PT. In PT, it was a group thing and even my wife was outdone by another lady who happened to be in her 80's!

Judy sounds like one strong lady. glad she is doing so well. I have been waiting 4 years to get this done. Even have gone on a diet and lost 22 lbs the last month to help pave the way for a quicker recovery. Hope she makes it home tomorrow.

Don't know anybody who regretted having it done, but I do know people who deeply regretted having waited so long to have it done. Good on you and Judy. (Neither one of you will ever be allowed through airport security again!) A huge part of recovery from surgery is attitude, and you guys both have it. Just don't push it too fast.

Medical science constantly amazes me how far it has come in the last 10+ years! Hope she has a quick and full recovery...she should get frequent surgery miles good toward a discount on the next operation!
