Screech owl? My dad used to say crows get after them in the day and they flee to the shed, garage, or even deck furniture to escape. I dunno, but we have one in the garage every few years for a day visit if we have left the door open.

Hope he hangs around to keep the varmints down for you.:)

We always called them "Hootie owls" or "barn owls" when I was a kid. I am pretty sure that is because we weren't smart enough to know the real name. I like owls. They are cool.

Great Horned Owl, yes? I love the "Hoo hoo hooo" on a late summer night.

I'm pretty sure they hang around....Most night around my place it sounds there is an owl hotel in my backyard! Some night we have to shut the windows when they get really vocal. Heck between the owls and pileated woodpecker beating on the house it's hard to get a decent nights sleep ;lol

Is that a "Great horned"? I can't really tell by the pic, but I thought Great Horned were taller. Could be the angle of the pic.

I figured it was just a baby--what say, certified?

Certified - I think you are on to it. If you expand the OP's pic (yours), it sure does look like one of the same.

I concur. We have those guys, too. You will know it when they let one out in the wee hours.
(uh oh, I sense a smart remark coming up...)

Smart remark.
