Thought you were researching a truckload of Somerset's for me...I mean us!

I was.... Then I bought a Dixie Chopper 3374 Excalibur and a Stihl MS 460....

That was put on hold. Pending the purchase on my Polaris Ranger (Razor is what I want, but Ranger is practical). ;)

Sorry buddy.... (Also have some stove selling and swaping in the works). I need to be on extra special behavior. My Wife loves me. But she hates my money spending habits! :(

Its a tough industy...

Count- even a broken watch is correct twice a day!

IMHO, NO way you will see $4/bag pellets this season. Costs are just too high.

If the so called "analysts" are right, the absolute bottom is going fall out of the price of oil by years end or early 2013. Transportation costs may be high now but I just don't think the prices we are seeing now will hold.

I guess time will tell.......most poeple cant hold out till "years end or early 2013" to get their fuel though, and I certainly wouldnt hold off buying in the hopes that the prices will plummet......raw material is bought, pellets are made and sitting....you likely wont see a big drop even if the price drops.......

Hey Oldmountvernon,
Not sure why they told you they didn't have the Green Teams, I drove right in their stockyard and looked at the shipment. They were Green Teams Platinum's and their were probably 15 ton's or so. They quoted me $5.49 per bag price.......

Hey J, good to see you on the forum finally. GT are going to be a bit overpriced out of the gate. At 274, they do not have much room to go up! I got Vermonts for for 259 about a month ago, I think that is price June has too.

Lowes in Rochester, NH wants $275 a ton, lol no thanks

Similar thing happened to me last year, mid summer. The manager told me $299/ton and I told him I could get a much better pellet for that price. A month later they were on sale @ $199/ton. Be patient and wait them out. I think they price them high early in the summer to see if they can get some suckers to buy at that price before the promo pricing comes out.

Yeh, i told them nothing personal but they can sit on them all summer for that price.

Hi Scott, how do you like the Vermont's? Do you think their close to Okie's, I might have to give them a try. Those GT's even with the 10% discount seem a little high.......I burned some Ambiance hardwoods early last year for $ 250.00 a ton.....they were supposedly oak, cherry and maple......I must say they were one of the best smelling pellets I've had so far......

I just called Lowe's to get pellet prices, Hadley, MA store. He said they don't have them on the floor yet but they are in stock. Said they have Green Supreme and Green Team. He gave me the price of the "standard" pellet (Green Supreme) at $4.87/bag ($243.50/ton). He said the "premium" pellets are $1 more per bag; I hadn't heard of Green Team so I didn't ask if that's considered premium (more expensive). Delivery is $65 (I don't have a truck and can't get one). I can get the 10% off coupon.

Do you guys think the price will go down? I feel I should have my pellets stockpiled by now (mid summer) but that price is almost $1 more per bag than I paid last year for the same brand at Lowe's...last year I bought in Sept.

I hate the shopping-for-the-best-pellet-deal routine every year!! I just want to get them in my garage and be done w/ it but I think this price is high. As I said I'm limited, I have to go w/ a vendor who delivers.

DISCLAIMER- ***I SELL PELLETS***

"Do you guys think the price will go down?" thats the million dollar question, Requin! In my opinion, and factoring out the big box pricing games currently mentioned above, and IN MY OPINION, I do not think there is much downside to buying now. A few of the hearth and pellet retailers have put up early buy pricing, so, you might want to check another source more local to you. I know folks seem to think they can force the price down by waiting, but there are certain hard costs involved in making/selling pellets, and I dont think the pellet co's and hearth dealers plan to ever sell below those hard costs just to move product. I think the risk you take by waiting might overshadow the risk you take by buying early. Many folks are waiting to buy, maybe waiting till late summer/fall, but this could create a logistical nightmare in the next few months for delivery of those pellets.

Could the price go down? Possibly. Will the price go down alot? Very unlikely. If they are fairly priced at the current time, I dont expect to see much, if any, reduction. Could there be a pellet shortage? Who knows. The loss of one big pellet mill in New Engalnd due to disaster would pretty quickly create a shortage. I know, I know, those mills never catch fire, do they?

Just received the alert that Greene Teams will be arriving at my local Lowes around July 15th.
