Sounds to me like this guy may think he is being "green" but really does not understand a whole lot. They may think we are stupid for doing this work but do they think we are stupid for keeping our homes warm? I shudder every time I hear someone say they keep their homes in the 60's during the day and maybe 55 at night.

Yup, I agree. Of course you can't tell him any different. S'ok. If it wasn't for my nieces, I'd laugh the next time I hear how they spent time freezing when the power went out/furnace broke down. I didn't bother even explaining EPA stoves.

As to the selling part, we've been thinking of selling camp wood during the summers. Sell the stuff that's just a weird lengths/that stacks funny and use it as ecobrick money. When you scrounge, you're bound to get some pieces that are about an inch too long for your stove and ridiculously short when cut to fit.

Selling 2 or 3 year seasoned wood would be tough for me. Painful even.
By the time the wood goes in the stove, I know each split very well, be like selling an old friend. LOL

And if you want to replace it chances are you only find green unseasoned wood.

. I said nope, I don't sell wood. I will be glad to give you some for the fire place but I won't sell it. He is a good kid and has been a good neighbor.

Thats pretty much where im at,if any deserving person needs wood,ill donate some but as far as selling it nah, i would not know where to buy quality seasoned oak like i have.
LIke my friends who make wine,they wont sell you any, but you can drink all you like all they ask is your company in return.Hey wait a minute,,,,,, dId i just compare my wood pile to fine wine??/?//???

Got to talking with a fellow wood burner the other day and now I'm not sure that trying to convince non-burners of all the benefits this burning brings is a good idea. We realized that if alot more people did this, there would be shortages of stoves, saws and wood. This would not happen to those harvesting off their own land of course, but scrounges would get harder to find. Kind of like telling someone else about your favorite fishing hole. Now, I just agree: "Yup, I'm nuts for doing all that work".

HehHeh . . . I may not remember every split . . but I do remember certain pieces and certain trees. It's kind of funny when you see a split or splits and remember that one tree -- where it was located in the boggy area and how bad the mosquitoes were that day, how much of a challenge it was to take down as it got hung up in another tree, how you ended up pinching your saw, how you lost half your trailer load of wood coming out, etc. . . . and then you remember why you wouldn't want to sell any wood.

Shortages? Gark, your post made me think about a few days ago when I was in a saw shop. The guy also sells lots of lawnmowers. I made an off-hand comment about cooling the weather a bit and he'd start selling more saws. He said because of the storms we've had in July this year he has sold more saws than he has lawn mowers.
