Just wanted to pass along the latest response I received from BKVP on ther new stoves. Looks like they are still trying to get them out for this season.

Hello all. Sorry for the delay in responding, I have been in the great state of Alaska for the past few weeks. One poster mentioned they had called my offices and spoke with a lady in the staff that indicated the Ashford would not be available until March of next year.

That most definitely is NOT our goal! And the staff have been updated and we are sorry for the confusion.

We have two new stoves that we hope to release this Fall. The first is nearly complete. The second, the Ashford is a bit more challenging.

The Ashford designs were changed just over two weeks ago, throwing wrench into the works. No images are available at this time, sorry. As for size, it will be based on the same firebox the Chinook 30 is based upon. Yes it will be steel with cast body.

As for size of firebox, a few of you guys mentioned there is little demand for stoves larger than our King at 4.27 cu. ft. You are correct. Additionally, acheiving EPA emissions is more difficult as the size of the firebox increases.

Now I need to get back to work......so take care and enjoy!

Chris

I can't wait to see it! I think a cast looking stove with the 30's firebox size with be a big hit.

I agree..... I am looking forward to the new line....

I would Love to get a King in the Future, but only having a 6" Class A... Not happening.

The smaller stoves are still o.k. with the 6"...

Love my 30-NC, but would LOVE a longer burn..

Be an interesting stove to test drive. The Chinook 30 weighs 450 pounds so wrapping that firebox in cast iron is gonna make a beast. 2.75 cf and a cat. Should be a good one.

If it has a cast iron classic look to it I'll be interested in purchasing one... in 5 to 10 years.

Seriously, have I mentioned how done I am moving stoves. I should really post some pics showing the bruising I have across my shoulder from my most recent juggling act.

Thanks for the update Todd. That confirms my guess on the taking the Chinook steel core and wrapping it with cast iron. Should be an interesting stove.

I wonder what the shape will look like. It kind of has to look like a PE T6, right? Big and square with a big front door?

So it looks like they will have the Chinook 20/30, Sirroco 20/30 and eventually the Ashford 20/30. Should be a good line up, I'm getting the itch again.

If I had any faith in the cosmetic sensibilities of the folks at BK, I'd have already called to request placing a "pre-order". ;lol

Let's hope they make more info available soon. I'm getting itchy sitting here waiting to order a stove, so close to the burn season.

Well, if it has a cast iron shell, it is pretty safe to say it will look like a traditional cast iron stove.

Why's that? Their steel stoves don't look like traditional steel stoves.

Keep in mind, the Chinook 30 pictured here is the basis for their new cast stove.

Even when they try to go tradtional and put legs on it, you end up with an oddly-proportioned bottom-heavy pumpkin looking thing:

Let's hope they got some outside help with the new stove!

It can be argued that the Chinook looks like many other stoves. I can name at least three other manufacturers that use the same design. Englander and Morso being two of them. The King/Princess are odd looking, but there are many steel stoves that have odd designs.

You can say that some of the Lopi steel stoves are odd looking. You can say that some of the fisher designs were odd looking. You can argue that the Englander 30 is odd looking. You can say that the PE line of steel stoves look like out dated microwaves.

Now, name all the "odd looking" cast iron* stoves.

Fact is, nearly all cast iron stoves follow the same design. Some call it gothic, others call it classic. But, almost all of them follow the same lines. Only Morso and a few small European stove makers occasionally produce "modern" designs when it comes to cast iron stoves. And even then, they still have shades of traditional lines to them.

*Note; just because it isn't an odd design doesn't mean everyone likes them. There are many that love the looks of steel stoves. But, in terms of design, cast iron stoves rarely deviate from the tried and true look.

I think I just bought a Sirocco 20. ;lol the disease continues. Anyone need a Keystone?

As long as Todd is around, I feel less awkward about my sickness.

Yep, I'm getting me one of those alien tech stoves. ==c Waiting on a call back to see if BK will put the door hinges on the other side but if they can't I'll get it anyways. Looks like $2k for the leg model, ash pan option and no blower. I've been eyeing the PH and waiting on the new BK but I think both will be too big or bulky looking for my small basement. The Sirocco should fit nicely and if I can get those 20 hour burns consistantly I'll just load her up once or twice per day to keep the basement warm and burn the upstairs Keystone as needed in colder weather.

I almost bought a Woodstock gas stove for the basement thinking I could just turn it on as needed and burn the upstairs Keystone as primary but the wife spends a lot of time downstairs and I think I'd end up burning more gas than I want to.

It's been quite a while since I've burned a steel stove, been a stoner for the last 10 years, time to kick the habit!

I can't wait to see how it works out for you! I've been impressed with the Princess but the Sirocco 20 is smaller and in a basement so I'm not sure how it'll work out for you. I have no doubt it'll get the advertised burn time but not sure if it'll heat the area well enough for you while getting those burn times. I think you'll be the first Sirocco burner on the site?

Well it only has to heat a 1000 sq ft finished basement so I figure I can burn low and slow right through the Winter and use the Keystone for the upstairs when needed. I know BKVP said this stove burns 20 hours with Larch so I'm hoping to do that or a little better with my 3 year old hardwoods.

I am down to either the sirocco or the T5 to replace my heritage. Both the sirocco and the princess are rated to heat 1500 SF and both are rated with the 20 hour burntime. I don't get that but whatever. BK does not specify the depth of firebox below the door for ash storage or the actual firebox dimensions. The hearth requirements are very small and in an ideal setup you would only need a hearth 45.25 inches from the wall.

I really think the fans would be a good idea for the sirocco. They are smaller paddle fans (think CPU fan) and since this stove is double layered, might really be important to get the heat out.

Might be nice to wait for the Ashford but you know it will cost more and waiting is no fun.

2000$ is a great price Todd, that's similar to a PE stove. Did you get a price for the fan kit? Why did you choose the ash pan?

Why did you choose the ash pan?

Todd is a fan of ash pans. I don't remember anyone complaining about the BK ash pan systems, so, it will be interesting to see how this one works.

Me? It doesn't matter. But, I can say I like the ash pan on the Defiant. I went weeks without shoveling or emptying ash from that stove. It bordered on amazing.

I don't always get those manufactures numbers either. Maybe the Sirocco is a little more efficient than the Princess, I know it burns a little cleaner? I also heard the fire box depth isn't as deep as the Princess but it makes the air wash more effective. The fire box dimentions I found are 17.5 W, 10.75 H, 16 D from brick to brick or 18.5 from brick to glass. That height of only 10.75 doesn't sound so good, I thought 12" was short. I figure throw the first row of splits E/W and the next row N/S.

I'm going without the blowers for now, I've never been a big fan of them and I have good natural air circulation as is. Didn't ask for blower price.

I was waiting for the Ashford but once I found out they were using the Chinook 30 fire box I figured the overall depth of the stove would look too big for my hearth. I think the Chinook is around 30" deep, too big for my hearth and small room.

I've always been a fan of ash pans, less mess and flying ash. You can only be carefull so many times til you bump your shovel and leave a mess.

The PE is a good looking stove but do you really want another non cat? I figure your climate is perfect for a cat stoves longer lower output burns.

Comes out to 1.75 CF assuming you stay inside the bricks. Not bad, pretty close to spec. 10.75 inches tall is plenty I think.

Well the glass is 15.625x8 so that may means the 2.75 inches is somehow split between ash depth and ceiling clearance. Not much storage for ash compared to the princess or king.

The ash pan on the heritage sucks, so my bias is established. You have to open the drawer and then slide open the grate in to allow ashes to drop into the pan. I understand that some ash drops are just slotted floors that constantly allow ash to trickle down or perhaps a plug in the floor like the old fashioned fireplaces. I don't want the chance of leaky gaskets or added complexity so unless somebody sees the system and likes it I'll think no.

The king has a plug in the floor. I used it once, but by the time ash needs emptying, the stove is so deep it takes a lot of trips to get it all with the ash pan. Easier to shovel.

Will the Sirocco be big enough for you, Highbeam? As much as you are looking at burn times, 1.8 cu ft is pretty small.
