First trip out and I hooked a nice Salmon, very lucky for this early in the season. I just took a new job that will see me doing a far bit of travel so trying to get my fishing in now. Also, it looks like Newfoundland has been blessed with a summer this year, great weather.

Well done! River conditions here have been hit and miss with snowmelt and rain. Seems like they've been out of shape on my days off. I managed to get one king this month but I'm itching for some summerruns.

oooohhh....man would that fish be good cooked over some smoldering white oak and applewood. yer giving me some ideas for cooking.......
beautiful fish and picture.

Soaked cedar planks I hear are great for grilling fish. I'm allergic to fish, love to catch 'em, can't eat them. Go figure. I'm a catch and release guy.

Great morning fly fishing, Hooked 3, lost 2, had many fish rise to the fly. Caught a nice 60cm, 5lb grilse.

Nice job Skin, are the tags to limit catches?
Thanks.Yes the tags are used to protect the limited runs, only 6 fish per season permitted. Basically July thru to Sep, tags may only be used in certain areas and certain months, Fly fishing only and barbs must be pinched, Tough sport for sure. I picked up the sport maybe 4 years ago and managed to get 4 fish this year, my best year to date. Given that it is by all accounts a bad year for fishing due to warm and low water levels, I am happy.

What weight is your set up? Do you have drag on the reel?
9 1/2 foot rod, 8 weight floating line, with a 6 lb leader at the moment. Fly depends on the fish, but typically, blue charm, thunder and lightening, spliy wing butter fly or in august a small or large orange bug.
