starting to see some of the migratory members pop back up on the site, and the days are definately getting shorter......there's a crispness in the morning air (not cold, just "fallsy"), the birds have started grouping up and chattering a bit.......I am getting anxious for fall, but I must say I will also miss summer. OK, now that I got that off my chest......

I agree Scotty... I love the chilly mornings. Dipping down in the upper 50's some nights this week. Love it..

I am really looking forward to this season. It has been a HOT Summer and I am ready for some cooler weather :)

I agree Scott. I loved those 40 degree mornings we had but now it has warmed back up. We had 2 days of 90 degree again. Yuck. Cooler today but more humid. Will welcome fall.

Just looked this morning and our daily average temperature drops 11 degrees in the month of September. Drops another 13 degrees in Octember.

Actually looking forward to waking up at 3am to close windows,,,, pulling up another blanket and drifting back to sleep with a cold nose...... At least one morning,,,,, thereafter the stove will have a small fire before clocking out!!!
This has been a wicked hot summer !!! I've had enough!

We're definitely noticing the shorter days and longer shadows on the garden. Another couple weeks and this place will be buzzing.

It's almost time for the 3 Fs: fall, firewood, and football. Great time of year...also: apples, leaves turning and the end of the hot, humid weather.

More "seasoned firewood" ads are showing up in the classifieds.

It was a great firewood drying summer though. Time to make grape jelly, apple pies and stews in a few more weeks. Comfort food time of year.

I love all the seasons . . . well except for Black Fly Season . . . and Mud Season . . . and rarely find myself wistfully thinking towards the future season, but rather I enjoy spending time in the season I am in. My only regret is that with the change of seasons I start to think of all the things I thought about doing and never did . . .

I love it.. I was reading the "leaves not yet falling..." thread the other day and yesterday driving home I noticed that a few leaves are falling here and there. Probably just due to the dry but it wont be long.

Also reminds me to keep going on the outside paint touch up work Ive been doing to get things done before it gets cold.

Fall can't get here fast enough. I've had all the gardening, watering plants, brutal heat, and A/C I can handle.

Getting ready for the noise. After we have the first night where the temp dips into the fifties the saws will fire up all around me with people cutting firewood for this winter. Happens every year.

Damn you, Canadian Geese! Damn you!

Yup . . . that is one of the projects I have been meaning to do . . . all Summer long.

The leaves have been changing quite rapidly here. Of course there are the ones from the drought but this week especially we've noticed more and more soft maples turning red and cottonwoods turning yellow and some others. I also noticed quite a few witch hazel turning yellow already.

bring on the snow. I want to be stuck at home, school cancelled, bring out the old monty-ward snow thrower and sit by the woodstoves in the barn and house. Not in the mood for ice though, so whoever is in charge of this stuff, keep my vote handy.

Been working on the window sills and frames. Need to find a good color.
I think primer white might do 'til spring.;lol

in all seriousness, though, fall is my absolute favorite. I want to get up right at sunrise and meander out to my woodstack with a warm coffee in one hand and my maul in the other. I like to start out with my wool lined vest and work until I need to take it off. Throw a couple puffs on my pipe into the mix and you've got yourself a winner of a day.

Enjoying a cup of coffee in the fall is good, but sitting by the window when it is snowing and drinking a cup is great!>>

It must be getting close. Guy on the place behind us has had the saw running all day for two days. He will be ready. Of course it is 90 degrees in the daytime.

Not many of us left Danno. One of our mods, but can't remember which one. Pen I think.

I break it out only in the fall. Reminds me of my great grandpa. very soothing and relaxing.
