I just love the simple solutions- here's a ceramic oven that semi-passively turns salt water into drinking water

There is a survival version of this with a different design that is basically a clear plastic blow up dome with ridges going vertically and down to little pouches. If lost at sea - you blow this thing up and set it on water and let the sun evaporate the salt water to condense on the top and run into the pouches for drinking. Simple stupid.

No reason the same concept can't be used to distill water anywhere in the third world.
