New NC 30

Hello all !! I just picked up a new NC 30 last month. I'm replacing my Napoleon 1402 insert which served me well for 4 years. I'm going to put the 30 inside the firebox. I measured the dimensions of the stove and the fireplace, and in theory, the stove should fit. What I neglected to measure was the size of the blower of the back of the 30 ! I need an additional 5 inches of space to fit the stove and blower into the fireplace. I'm thinking I may have to run another course of brick on the hearth to make up for the extra room that I need for the stove. Does anyone know if there is possibly a more compact blower that I can fit on the back of the 30?? I'm going to give Englander a call on Monday and speak with them. Figured I would check in here first. Thanks in advance.....

From what I understand there are two types of blowers for the 30. One kind of looks like am industrial hairdryer (AC15). What does yours look like?

Hope you are happy with the switch.

I've yet to see a smaller blower, so I'm fairly certain you are stuck there.

Are you 5 inches short of the clearance to combustibles to the front? Or are you short of brick to get the stove to stand on in the fireplace? If you need a little more protection out front, but the stove will sit soundly, perhaps a hearth rug?

Thanks for the reply. My blower definitely looks like the industrial hair dryer !! With the extra five inches it add's to the stoves length, I am running out of hearth room and have to ad another course of brick to the hearth. I never thought the blower would be five inches wide. Totally my mistake. I have a mason friend thats gonna take a look at my hearth in a few days and see what my options are. I have plenty of room to do the extention and my clearance to combustibles is fine. Thanks a bunch...

The dimensions for the AC30, the one that doesn't look like a hair dryer, is 4.5" x 4.5" x 18".

That hairdryer blower shows up for the nc-13. Hmm, can't even find the ac15 on their website, only the ac16 (for the 12, 13, and older stoves) and the ac30

ahhhh, just went through the literature for the 30 at lowes this year and it shows that hair dryer blower as being standard, looks like they made a plate to fill that large opening when not using the originally designed blower. The ac-30 is listed as being an optional blower. Guess it's better than nothing. The price has stayed pretty much the same, and when my stove was purchased, it didn't come with any blower.

Funny they haven't changed that on the englander website yet.

Joey, if that ac-30 blower would work for you, and you want to sell that hair dryer, let me know.

I suspect that the AC-30 is a quieter blower as well as shallower. Maybe Mike can add some info here.

I have the AC30 on the older 30-NC in the fireplace. And it is a pain in the butt to clean. And too close to the back wall to remove it from the stove. The smaller blower came with the new, yet to be installed in the basement, 30 that I bought in the Spring.

Eventually I am going to fab a duct in the fireplace that will let me feed the blower air from the smaller blower up through the heat shield on that stove with the blower outside of the fireplace.

the "AC-16 blower" is now a standard item included with all of our 30-nc units (as of 2011) we have replaced the standard access panel on the heat shield with one which acepts the ac-16. the optional blower (AC-30) is installed by removing the access panel and inserting the blower into that opening and bolting it in. this blower would afford a much closer clearance than the ac-16 due to its design and would probably be the more desirable of the two iwth the closer clearance installations.
