had to clear all the crumpled up paper and kleenex etc out of the wood stove so i threw in a match.....big mistake, now i've got the wood stove itch, wishing it was snowing outside so i could sit by the fire all night....sadly its still +20 celcius and looking warm til the end of september....am i crazy for wanting winter

I know what you mean, cleaned my chimney today (didn't really need it) but I'm just itching to have my first fire of the year.

This weekend we're firing it up. Even If for just one evening, heck the kids are even bugging about it! We're all excited. And I cannot WAIT for snow. I sure hope we get a real winter this year!!

It was in the 50's and my wife turned the furnace on, I said wait a minute, lets have the first fire.. very toasty right now, it is amazing that I have very little shoulder season wood in 23 cords of wood, burning some Oak already. I have so much dead Oak that that is almost all I have been cutting for the last several years. Goes back to the gypsy moths over 20 years ago that killed them. The white oak is still great, some of it is still standing. Heard it is going down to the low 40s maybe even high 30s.

It was 65 in the house so we fired one up lastnight. My kindling burned for an hour and a half, then I threw in four small ash splits three n/s and one in the middle on top going e/w that was at 8:30pm (still a ton of room for more) I got up for work at 4:45am and the fan was still blowing but not kicking out too much heat and I still had a few coals left. Im excited because I have a new stove to learn this burning season and cant wait to fill her up.

Two overnight fires since the 14th. We are getting a new cold front thru every couple days so it brings 10+ degree swings in sort time periods along with the cold rain and heavy wind 30 Fire Up 002.jpg to go with it. Shorts and uglies work just right..............

I guess Pudge will be farting away in front of the fire daily before too long. :)

Yup he loves crashing in front of the insert and letting them ripp.

they just updated the forecast here to be -4celcius on sunday morning....fingers crossed

I don't want winter - you can keep it.
I have already done a handful of "maintenance" fires (fires just to retain a bit of heat) and two overnight stove loads. Another month of this and I will have had enough for the "romance" of it. Then it turns into work.

Was in the 40s last night, but the sunny days heat up the house enough to make it through the night, so far... I've been looking forward to winter since June..2011!
