Chimneys are cleaned, wood is stacked and seasoned, the temperature seems to be dropping, the air is dry. I admit it, I have the itch. In 1974 I built my home, started my family and started burning wood to save money. Now....well, it has become way more than that. All you die hard hearth.comers know what I am am talking about. This place is just one more icing on the cake. Bring on winter. I'm ready;)

Maybe next month, I'm in no hurry chief.

Not really any hurry, but yes, we're ready.
Looks like the forecast has changed...yet again, for late Sept., and we may be back on track to start burning right about when we normally do.
Then, there's always tomorrow's forecast.......>>

Still waiting for stove parts. Everything else is ready to go. I am all excited, today I am headed into the woods to begin cutting firewood.

I was ready to go two weeks ago . . . and I've had a few fires already . . . including one this morning . . . but I'm not all drove up about starting burning . . . I'm still relishing the nice temps of Summer/Fall.

I'm ready! Was waiting last night to cool off enough to light the stove....It didn't happen! This morning was about 35 and furnace was running so threw a match in the stove and presto....instant happiness....

Not ready here. Wood supply for this year is all set and covered, but I still need to clean out the stove and chimney, reinforce the baby gate around the stove.... convince my wife the stove is not dangerous to said babies.

oh and finish my exterior painting.

But Im not worried. We will still probably see temps in the 70s into October, we wont really need the heat fora while yet.

I've been ready, physically, since May. Emotionally, I can wait.

Just to set the record straight, I love fall more than any other season, so I am not trying to rush winter. It's just that the first time there is a nip in the air, I start thinking about those warm fires in the winter. ;)

I can take weather like this all year. I work outside in all weather and would rather sweat at 95° than deal with snow and cold. Last few days have been just perfect. First time I've worn pants to work in months.

I have a couple of items I need to button up on the plow truck and then it can snow all it wants.

That reminds me to fire up the the snowblower and change the oil... genny too.

I see some days of 50's coming again. Probably will have a few fires this weekend.

I'm in no rush. I love the fires, but will wait to start until It's really needed because I know I'll be sick of it come March like every year.

Anyone else wondering WTH Jeff does for a living?

More than ready to rock & roll......... 1 year ahead, and working on 2.

Picked up a truck full of cherry yesterday, and the nice man (he said he was 76.... looked about 60 - 65 to me !) who said "You're mine kind of woman" as I loaded it up, is saving me the other 2 cherry trees, AND he's cutting the 2-3" branches into 14- 16" pieces for me AND trimming the brush off of it.

Whooppie !!!!!!;)

And if my phone would send pics to my email, it'd be done......damned Sprint/Nextel.

I can feel the chill in the air................fighting it as much as I can !

We must remember how the Chief had to sit back and watch last year. and with a brand new stove ! Good heating, Chief !
Thanks burr, but I would just as soon not remember::-) I will leave that to the rest of you. But thanks, you are so right! It is often difficult for most of us to realize what we have, until we lose it!
