I am wondering now if it would hurt to pull the wires out through the grommet most of the way until I feel a little resistance (since the igniter is connected with insulated secure clips) and just put the slack wiring in the bundle with a zip tie? This would be more wire than I had when I marked it originally.

thats how its done, Rick......if you dont pull thgose wires all the way back, and the tube gets too hot, you'll burn the insualtion off, causing a short circuit.
