Went up to HD rental and picked the used 25 ton Speeco splitter for 500 bucks. 8 HP Honda OHV, 2 stage pump. It has some rust on the tank. bad wheel bearings, but it works! Gonna change out the fluids. Just a heads up for the guys looking for a cheap splitter.

I have purchased a Makita 6401 Chainsaw know a 7901 from HD rental.
Honda Garden tiller FRC 800.

Thats a good buy. Changing the bearings is a pain. I would probably do both sets if I were you.

Not a bad price, that thing will pay for itself over and over again each year as you use it to split your wood...

Sounds good Lanning. Hey, I haven't seen you posting much lately. Good to know you are still hanging around.

Thata a good deal. I wish my HD's would sell some of there rental stuff? Whem I ask about it, I get the..... Duhhhhhhh.... Look :(

Little rust never hurt a splitter. New fluids and bearings, she'll be like new again. That Honda motor should run for years and years! :)

Wow, that's a terrific price! The wheel bearings are super simple to remove and replace. Good Find!

Highly recommend you check out etrailer.com if you intend to replace those bearings. Excellent pricing and a great company to deal with.

+1 on doing both sets, easy peasy.

Very nice price.
Looks to be in fairly good shape.
A little TLC & it'll last you many years.

You guys that find Makita saws and nice splitters .....

I search one end of Home Depot to the other and never find anything nice
except for maybe some of the help
and then I get tossed out for trying to open packages

Another issue that I just saw on the splitter is a small hair line crack in the corner of the cast steel foot plate that is about 3/4 in. I wonder if this is something I should get welded or be concerned about? I will post a picture when I get home. Please advise? Jim

I would call Speeco, they had issues with those bottom plates.

According to some of the post on the arborist site, Speeco has really good customer service. They also posted a guys e-mail that works for the company that helped out with the splitter. Not sure how old this unit is? I know that have a 3 year warranty period on the cast iron bottom foot plate. But its worth a call and see what they say?

dangggggg. Totally jealous of this find right now!

I bought one last year for the same price, it is actually called Iron Hand, it is made by speeco. It will not be under warranty.

I sold mine for $800 and upgraded to a Timberwolf Tw-P1 with all the accessories. It was a rental also, paid $1000.
